Instructions on how to play Exploding Cat
Set up the deck
Before playing Exploding Cats, you need to set up a deck of cards suitable for the number of players. If there are 2 – 5 people participating, a deck of 56 cards is enough. However, if the number of players is larger, 2 decks should be used. Specifically, the setup is as follows:
Step 1: Remove the Exploding Cat (4 cards) and Defuse (6 cards).
Step 2: Shuffle the remaining deck of cards and deal 4 cards to each participating player.
Step 3: Take the Defuse cards you just dropped and divide 1 card into each player. Thus, in total each player will have 5 cards and must keep their cards secret.
Step 4: Place the explosive cards removed in step 1 into the undealt deck randomly. The number of Exploding Cat cards added is equal to the total number of players minus 1. Excess Exploding Cat cards are set aside and not used.
Step 5: The remaining Defuse cards are also randomly placed into the undealt deck. If participating in a game with only 2 players, only add 2 Defuse cards. The remaining Defuse cards are discarded and unused.
Step 6: Shuffle the deck again and place it in the middle. This will be the deck of cards for players to use when playing.
Step 7: Choose who starts the game.
